What is Curly Vision?

Curly Vision is an eye-controlled communication aid developed for people who, due to physical impairments, cannot speak or use their hands to operate a computer. The device enables communication and computer control entirely through eye movements.

  • An eye-tracking camera detects where you look on the screen
  • Letters and words are selected with your eyes
  • The talker speaks written text
  • Windows and devices in the room can be operated the same way

Making good provision possible, together.

Curly Vision grew out of a research project with Fraunhofer IAO and was tested with more than ten experienced talker users. We provide technical data, training, demonstration devices and direct support.

About us

Born out of a personal experience.

In 2017 a colleague of ours was diagnosed with ALS. The progression was rapid. Before long he could no longer speak and depended on technical support to communicate with his family and friends at all.

The speech computers he was given were slow and cumbersome to operate. In the end he only communicated what was strictly necessary. Real conversation no longer happened. We were not willing to accept that.

Together with Fraunhofer IAO in Stuttgart we developed an eye-controlled on-screen keyboard in a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It doubles the input speed compared with existing systems, with considerably better ergonomics. To turn it into a market-ready medical device, we founded Curly Cube GmbH.

Curly Vision was not developed at a desk: many users with ALS, cerebral palsy and similar conditions, all with years of talker experience, tested the features again and again and helped shape them. We were accompanied by experts in augmentative communication who use eye control themselves, and by an advisory board from neurology and speech therapy.
